Bent shift lever shaft?

I have a 1980 honda cb 650 custom. I just got a replacement engine and i noticed that when I shift into 1st gear the lever sticks in that position. I figured the shaft is bent but my main question is if that lever is bent will it cause more problems in the transmission or will it just affect the shift lever?

check to see if the lever is touching the case,if it is ,just replace it,if the shifter shaft itself is bent/out of alignment,id take it back to whoever rebuilt it and blame it on them
