ways to improve my left hand?

ok so basically i like to do dance and am thinking of becoming a drummer

however, a promblem i have when im dancing is im told that my right arm and hands can do much more complex movements than my left one, honestly when i go through it slowly i see how much more control and ability i have in my right arm and hand than my left

so obvioulsy the thought comes into my head, if my left hand is weak surley it will affect my drumming, i plan on getting a drum kit for chirstmas, so what im asking is

does anyone know of anyway, through execises etcc that i can improve my left hand and arm

The answer to this question is deceptively simple...yet something that almost everyone overlooks.

All that you have to do is train both hands evenly. Even though you have more control over your right hand, you will still be training it to move in different ways. In that sense, both of your hands will start from the beginning...although you will probably have an easier time learning intricate patterns with your right hand.

You should spend a lot of time practicing on a snare drum (or snare drum practice pad), and not just on your whole kit. Learn to read music, even if only at a basic level (you'll thank me later) and buy a book called "Stick Control" by George Stone (available at amazon.com and most music stores). Stick control is a series of simple patterns that are played over, and over, and over, and over, and over and over again (ad nauseum) to improve concentration, coordination, speed, strength and endurance. This is one of the most important drum books in print and it should be owned by anyone who is serious about drumming and it's exactly what you're looking for.
