do I need to replace both front brake calipers, even though only one is broken?

THe mechanice told me that only one caliper is damaged, but that I need to replace both, otherwise there could be problems with braking. Of course this costs double the money. Is this really necessary?

Like Mr. SS said, you don't have to, but it would be better if you did. The reason is because you want the brakes to wear evenly. Otherwise, it might start pulling to the side. The brand new caliper might be better than the one didn't have to replace, causing uneven wear.
