What is the an easy, affordable and secure way of making a backup of my files?
I purchased an external hard drive a while back with the intention of copying my files (photos, letters and the likes) to it in order to have a backup but I realized that copying them straight up would be cumbersome as I add several every week and would need to copy them as I go along. Now that I am moving and I have to trust others to manipulate my computer and it's internal hard drive, I really want to find an efficient way of backing them up and preferably being able to do it periodically either by instructing the computer to backup files that have not already been backed up or by scheduling it to do it automatically every week or so. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate it if you could formulate your answer in Laymen's terms as I can get around on a computer to really am not a techie. I have an answer for you: Windows Backup. Click start + programs + accessories + system + Backup tools. I would go in and create a backup job that backs up to a file and compresses the file. Then if you select the "Documents and Settings" folder all your user data and docs will be saved. Go into the options and make sure it's a full back and that you want to overwrite always. You will have to play around with it as I do not have all the settings memorized. This is what I do and it does a great job backup up my docs and photos to my second HDD. As long as you store everything in your My Documents folder and your desktop they will be backed up. I am sure there is a way to schedule the backup using the task scheduler but I just do mine manually. Hope this helps.
